Poet, filmmaker and author, Ally Acker has published three collections of poems, Surviving Desire (Garden Street Press, 1994), Waiting for the Beloved (Red Hen Press, 1999) and
Some Help From the Dead (Red Hen, 2010)
Equally prolific as a filmmaker, Acker has directed ten documentaries, Filmmakers on Film, based on her ground-breaking book, Reel Women:Pioneers of the Cinema, The First Hundred Years . Reel Women has also been made into an interactive CD-ROM hosted by Jodie Foster.
Ally Acker is the director/writer/producer of The Flowering of the Crone: Leonora Carrington, Another Reality . The film is the first feature length documentary to be produced about the renowned Surrealists life and work in the United States.
Acker is the author of the blog Reel Women Post! (www.reelwomen.com) She is also on the board of the literary journal, Poetry Salzburg Review.
Ally Acker lives in New York with her Terrier/Poodle, (or Noodle Poodle as she prefers to be known), the loqucious Maggie Poppie.
